Executive Functioning Help Is Here for Your Child!

You are here because...

You care deeply about your child’s future. We at Now I Get It! Tutoring Services are here for the same reason. We are an Atlanta-based boutique executive functioning tutoring service in our 13th year of business, and we help young people who struggle with missing assignments, homework completion, work organization, and physical work material organization. We also offer our clients writing tutoring and subject-based academic tutoring.

As a “boutique” service, we maintain a deliberately small client list so that we are able to provide only the most personalized attention for every student we service. This facet of the Now I Get It! business model ensures that your child is never “just another client” to us, but a unique young person who has much to offer and with whom we are delighted to work!

Scroll on, and let's find out if we're a great fit for your family's needs!

Hi there! You are so in the right place if...

  • Your child is bright.

  • Seriously, your child is really, really bright. Many people who struggle with executive functioning have very high IQ scores and are superstars in their chosen fields/areas of interest. (And while you appreciate this fact, you know your kiddo has to get through middle or high school first.)

  • Speaking of being bright: your child scores well on tests, but her grades are lower because of missing work.

  • Your child gets pretty good test grades, but you know he could ace his assessments if only he'd study.

  • Your child has a difficult time getting her homework sessions started.

  • Major projects are completed in  stressful night-before scrambles.

  • Your child assures you they've been doing their homework and even working on that project they've known about for weeks...and you're stunned to find out later how little actually has been completed.

  • You know for sure your child does her homework...but she doesn't turn it in.

  • Alternatively, perhaps your child  doesn't turn in work because "it's not perfect," and perhaps she spends hours and hours on assignments for that same reason.

  • Your child's backpack and/or binders are juuuuust a tad nightmare-ish.

  • Homework completion includes tears, arguing, and/or stress.

WE CAN HELP!

Getting Work Done Well

First, we get that executive functioning struggles are a real thing.

It genuinely is more difficult for some people to keep up with their work--where it is, when it's due...and also actually getting it done. (This truth is all the more fun when the person's parent is, by nature, highly organized!)

This is where we come in!

We define executive functioning simply as one's ability to get work done.

A person with well-developed executive functioning skills, then, can get his work done well--“well,” as in: he can complete his work on time, with ease (no rushing), and with a level of high quality.

And session by session, we teach our students these skills and help them build their capacity for getting their work done evermore well.

A High-Engagement Approach

The cornerstone of our philosophy is to begin with the end in mind: we aim to leave our students with lifelong practical strategies that are tailored to them and how they work best--and this approach begins from Session #1.

Typical sessions include surveying with the student (online or in person) his/her/their current assignments; updating their agenda to reflect upcoming major and minor assignments; and providing accountability by checking in about previous assignments that were to be completed and turned in.

Our format tenets are pretty set, and that's because they work. How  we perform each task with your child, however, is highly tailored according to his/her/their strengths, weakness, personality, and preferences for work flow.

While figuring out what homework there is to do (and when it's due) can prove quite challenging for many of our  students...we also recognize that sometimes, the even great challenge lies in self-starting--as in, the actual starting of the actual work.

Thus, we are an executive functioning coaching service that also provides hands-on help with your child's schoolwork after the organizing is done! Be it study skills help, reading or writing help, and/or homework assistance help in math or science: we are there as much as your child needs us!

Alas, the goal is for your child not to need us but for so long; but we always are happy knowing we have left our clients more confident and in charge of their learning process--and also with very specific work flow strategies that will serve them for life.

About Leslie

Hi! I’m Leslie, and I’m the owner of Now I Get It! Tutoring Services. I’m excited to share a bit about myself here.

I have always loved learning. While I may not have gotten the highest grade in class on every assignment, I always put forth my best effort, simply because I enjoyed the challenge of mastering the material. Learning for me has always been its own reward.

Becoming an English teacher was a natural progression for me. I obtained my undergraduate degree in journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; my master’s in education at New York University; and my master’s in school leadership at Harvard University.

Wherever I taught —in Harlem (NY, NY), the Lower East Side (NY, NY), Brasilia (Brazil), or Atlanta, my students and I had a rockin’ good time together animatedly discussing themes, characters, and ideas presented in class novels and individual novels students were reading; sharing personal and critical thinking essays aloud; engaging in simulations; sharing creative writing assignments; acting out scenes from what we’re reading; and just plain vibing together about reading and writing and thinking. I am also proud to say that my students also made significant strides as critical researchers, and that we all enjoyed that learning process, because of the rigorous sharing process and discussion that accompanied it.

I left the classroom and began tutoring in executive functioning and writing to support myself so I could continue working on my other “first” love, creative writing. Because it was born out of love and dedication, that tutoring has become a business of which I am so proud. My amazing tutoring team and I have served elementary through college-aged students, as well as some adults, online and across Atlanta for over a decade now, and I attribute our success to the blended approach I implemented and teach my tutors: we both provide pragmatic learning strategies that our students can apply immediately; and we actively model a lofty enthusiasm for learning.

One of the most important tenets I learned in my teacher and leadership training was the importance of creating community within an organization, an environment brimming with cohesive unity and vision, so that everyone within that organization shares a common vision, one that is more than words on paper, but something that is embodied in every lesson, something each stakeholder can’t help but be bettered by, inspired by. My hope is that you’ll feel both bettered and inspired during and after our time together.

What Our Clients Have to Say

I have had the pleasure of working with Leslie Quigless and Now I Get it Tutoring on both a personal and professional level.  As a practicing Neuropsychologist, I frequently see children and adolescents who experience difficulty in the area of executive function.  These children are often very bright, but not achieving to their full potential due to their difficulty managing their time, organizing their thoughts and materials, and sustaining their attention.  Careless errors, forgetfulness, and difficulties retaining information impact children’s grades in ways that feel out of their control.  Over time, self-esteem suffers and motivation declines.  We enlisted Leslie’s help with our younger son, when difficulties with executive function began to impact his performance and self-esteem in middle school.  Leslie conducted a sensitive and thorough interview with our son in a manner that made him feel very heard and understood.  Often, children feel that tutors are brought in to fix something that is broken, a process that further demoralizes.  Leslie helped our son recognize his strengths and empathized with his areas of difficulty.  She then developed a plan that was tailored to his needs.  Six months later, I can say that our son is much happier, less stressed and anxious, feels more in charge of his success, and is more able to benefit from support and feedback.

Building strong executive functioning involves much more than organizing a child’s binder or teaching study skills, it entails helping children develop and claim ownership of a system that works for them, and supporting children in ways that ensure accountability, while fostering self-reliance and self-esteem.  For skills to generalize to different settings, they must be relevant and meaningful.  Leslie scaffolds the development of these skills in a thoughtful, individualized, and supportive fashion with the goal that over time, children feel in control of their performance and success.

We have had two tutors for our son and both have been excellent!  The first helped with executive functioning/organization.  He was superb and ending up being a great mentor and friend.  Sadly, he moved out of state at the end of the summer.

Mack, our son's new tutor, is an excellent writing tutor and also is helping with the study skills and organization.  He, too, has been just the right guy at the right time.  What has made Now I Get It Tutoring so helpful is Leslie's thoughtful investment in getting to know your child and his or her strengths, weaknesses and goals and then matching the tutor and the student.  She really knows her stuff!

My daughter is a great student and generally does well, but when it came to writing and her organization skills, we realized that we needed some support. Leslie Quigless, the owner, was amazing with her assessment of my daughter and she knew exactly which tutor she needed to be paired with. Not only was the tutor able to help my daughter better organize her assignments and her writing structure for her IB lit class, but she also helped her write her college essays. And Leslie was there to support us through every facet of the tutoring process.

Fast-forward, my daughter is now attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (as an out-of-state student--not an easy feat) and I'd like to think that her amazing essay helped to seal the deal. Overall, I was beyond pleased with Now I Get It and I recommend them to anyone looking for customized academic support. You can't go wrong!

Wait...Our Clients Have More To Say!

I have two children with different learning styles and differences and Leslie has always been able to find tutors to meet the kids’ needs. I have a son that used the tutoring services from 6th grade all the way through 12th grade and a current student that is a junior in high school and needs support on AP level classes.

My oldest child had processing and executive functioning issues. Leslie was able to provide tutors that understood this issue and provided the necessary support to help him succeed in school. Children with this issue often suffer from anxiety and self esteem issues. Having tutors that understood the issue and could provide a stable learning environment helped alleviate his stress as well as mine.

Dianna W.

My son worked with Leslie’s company for writing and organization help back when he was 12 years old, and he still talks about her team’s impact. They provide a safe, one-on-one learning environment to provide many different opportunities for the students to truly learn key fundamentals of learning.

My son does well academically, but Leslie's team boosted his skills - and I believe Leslie and her staff helped my son build more confidence in his abilities, think differently,  and show him highly effective ways to improve his own writing and overall learning strategies.

By the way: my son just got into UGA and Brown University, his dream school.

We highly recommend Leslie's program!

Shakera S.

We had a great experience with Now I Get It! We initially met with Leslie, who quickly and accurately gained a sense of who our son is, both academically and behaviorally. Leslie then paired our son with Kalyn for tutoring, working on executive function, organization, and writing. It was a fantastic match! Kalyn was engaging and instructive, and our son was able to quickly improve in areas in which he struggled.

What Our Clients Have To Say About Our Academic Support!

I was looking for a tutor to help my son gain a more in depth knowledge of certain areas in ELA. I contacted Leslie in hope she may be able to help. Leslie spent an hour getting to know my son. She carefully matched him to one of her tutors Ms. Caitlin. My son absolutely loves her and has never complained about doing lessons. She has gone above and beyond what is expected. The lessons have been creative, fun and at his pace. My son’s grades have really improved too. The lessons looked like so much fun, my daughter asked if she could have them too! We are extremely happy with the results and have decided to carry on with the extra lessons as both children seem to really enjoy themselves while they learn!

My daughter Elisabeth struggled with math as a 10 grader and her counselors at school (The Galloway School, Atlanta, GA) highly recommended we call Leslie Quigless.

Leslie evaluated my daughter and as tutoring soon began we noticed a tremendously positive impact on my daughter in a very short period of time. Leslie’s warmth and relaxed manner was a huge breath of fresh air and tutoring had a hugely positive effect on my daughter’s belief in herself. As my daughter participated in weekly sessions her grade in math rose quickly as did her sense of accomplishment.  Thank you to Leslie and her outstandingly skilled team!

Patricia O.

My daughter always did pretty well in math, so when she started struggling in AP Statistics, we knew she needed the help of a tutor.  Leslie and her team were wonderful to work with.  After the first session, my daughter got a B on her next test!  She was very proud of herself and ended up doing well in the course.  Her teacher was so impressed at her level of improvement.  Overall, my daughter ended up with a full college scholarship!  Thank you to Now I Get It Tutoring for being a part of her success!
